B'More Green

Context: B’More Green is a mobile food delivery app that allows users to find healthy foods in the Baltimore area. This is how a positive difference can be made in the frustrating search for health-conscious food choices.

Problem: Eating healthily on a consistent basis is already enough of a hassle, especially when you throw cooking into the mix. In recent years, we have seen more and more people become conscious of what they eat. A more significant number of people than ever want to know more about where their food is sourced and the calories they are eating. I was introduced to statistics around larger cities, such as Baltimore, seeing an increase in people that are too busy to cook at home and are becoming frustrated with quick fixes or calorie-dense takeaways. Users want to find delivery establishments with significant acknowledgment of health details and convenience, but the market has not offered a process for users to find the information easily.

The Process
Research —> Ideation —> design —> prototype
Research

I started with competitor analysis to gauge how users order from food delivery apps. I compared some notable platforms that seemed to have a similar goal to what B’More Green was trying to accomplish, such as Uber Eats and Sweetgreen. Next, I searched through user reviews on the app store to gauge people’s thought processes while using these apps.

Competitor Analysis Insights:

  • Each app has the ability to view individual food items from certain establishments

  • Including a list of favorite or past orders allows the user to go back to their favorite foods

  • Food, price, and dietary filters help sort through all of the options

App Store Reviews Insights

  • Users do not typically see health/nutritional information while on the app

Personas
Based on all of the research carried out, I was able to develop three personas that fit the niche of people use would use a healthy food delivery app.

Ideation

After research was conducted and key insights were gained, my next task was to ideate. I needed to create a user flow that captured the problem space in a way that made sense.

Design

After several rounds of iteration and critiques, the solution I came up with was to establish a standard way of learning health and nutrition information through this mobile application. I prioritized helping users accomplish their goal of finding a health-conscious delivery platform.

INgredient list & Nutrition Facts

By displaying nutrition facts as you would on a physical box of food, users would save time searching online for nutritional information about the establishment’s food. Oftentimes, a lack of health consciousness comes from a lack of information. This will help users save time doing their own research and basically tell them if the item is “healthy” or not.

Macros Graph

The graphs for macronutrients and calories will explicitly display the levels in each in a way that is comprehensible for the user.

Prototype

I developed a high-fidelity prototype that I would present to test the functionality of the design.

Next Steps
  • conduct user testing
